Ourbucks Coffee
About the project:
Doc’s Corner Mart, once an essential neighborhood convenience store for Mill City residents to grab the available necessities in the middle of a food desert, will now be home to Ourbucks Coffee.
Ourbucks Coffee will serve as a community coffee shop, will provide fresh produce for local residents and will also have a community prep kitchen space available for local service-industry entrepreneurs to prepare their meals. Antong Lucky, President of Urban Specialists, was born and raised in Mill City and is passionate about bringing this type of development to the area in partnership with Matthews Southwest. Antong believes this partnership will be among many other impactful efforts to drive continuous community-oriented developments near Fair Park.
Doc’s Corner Mart was left abandoned for years and became an eyesore in the community and a place where drug sales and drug use became its primary function. In 2016, a partnership was formed by the late Bishop Omar and Antong Lucky of Urban Specialists, an organization whose mission is transforming communities by addressing senseless violence and poverty, and developer, Jack Matthews of Matthews SouthWest. This partnership is a part of a larger Urban Specialists’ initiative, which is to revitalize and rebuild the community. This was promised to the residents many years ago when Urban Specialists first started its community efforts.
